In 2025, Texas home sales exceeded $24 billion, breaking every record this state had set before.
In the first quarter alone, over 30,000 homes were available in Houston, giving new luxury
buyers plenty of opportunity to come home to this city. If you are not new to Houston, you have
probably noticed this through the increased traffic on the roads, the new restaurants opening in
your neighborhood, the new faces at your favorite spots, and the fresh developments going up in
areas that were already thriving. Everybody is moving to Houston, and it is not hard to
understand why.
Houston has always had a magnetic pull when it comes to opportunity. The Texas Medical
Center, NASA, an emerging technology sector, and the oil and gas industry all operate at full
force here, creating an almost never-ending demand for talent and labor. Houston, being the
largest city in the nation by geography, absorbs that demand and keeps growing because of it.
Here, companies are expanding, headquarters are relocating, and careers are being built at a rate
that very few other American cities can match right now.
With a difficult job market nationwide, young professionals are gravitating toward a city that will
actually reward their ambition, and Houston delivers. Established professionals, executives,
physicians, and entrepreneurs are making the move too, and the tax benefits make the decision
even easier. Whether someone has a big family or is flying solo, Texas does not impose a state
income tax, and for a high earner relocating from New York or California, that difference in
take-home pay is significant and adds up fast.Texas also has a lower overall cost of living, largely because of how much land there is in this
state we call home. That is exactly why we are seeing such an intense migration from densely
populated states like New York, California, and Illinois. People are running the numbers and
realizing they can have a larger home, a better lifestyle, and more financial flexibility in Houston
than they ever could in the city they are leaving behind. In the luxury market, especially, that
calculation is driving some very serious buying decisions.
The people who live in Houston will tell you that nothing compares to it. Houston is one of the
most diverse cities in the world, with over 145 languages spoken within its boundaries. Walk
through any major Houston neighborhood, and you will find authentic cuisine, cultural
celebrations, and tight-knit communities representing every corner of the globe. Buyers from
abroad are not moving somewhere unfamiliar. They are moving to a place where pieces of their
culture, their food, and their community already exist and are well established. That kind of
welcome is rare, and Houston has always provided it naturally.
When residents want to visit their roots or simply see the world, Houston makes that effortless.
George Bush Intercontinental Airport, although enormous, is extremely convenient, and it
recently completed a $2.3 billion expansion specifically to better serve Houston travelers.
Whether someone is flying to London for a board meeting or heading to Mexico City for a long
weekend, this city keeps everyone connected to wherever they need to be. Houston gives you
everything: expansive land, a booming job market, no state income tax, a
lower cost of living, unmatched diversity, and easy access to the rest of the world, all come
standard with life in this city. You can find pieces of the whole world scattered across Houston,
travel anywhere from Houston, and do all of it while saving money along the way.
Houston doesn’t need much of a sales pitch. But if it still hasn’t convinced you, maybe I can.
Until next time,
